Project Title: REMOTE MONITORING OF AWKWARD BODY POSTURES

Project Members: Dr. M. Saleem Mian, Mudassir Rasool, Mamoon Khan, Humayun Ajmal, Farhan Butt.

Abstract: You are walking with your friend who is as fit as you are. After some paces, you get tired but your friend does not. Why? Among several reasons, one that may not flash in your mind is that your gait pattern may be incorrect which may result in inappropriate muscle usage. Awkward posture may also be a root cause of other pains or injuries in the human body. Correct body posture is very important in performing routine activities more efficiently and may also help in preventing various future pains or injuries. Numerous consultations, brainstorming sessions and a needs analysis provided us the impetus for “Going Beyond the Boundaries” and explore the field of Physiotherapy and Ergonomics to provide a computer based solution to benefit the society. STYX proposes a daily wear, embedded with appropriate software and hardware which would be able to profile your body joint angles, monitor the body movements and trigger an alarm if the posture is not correct. Project Title: Digital Manav

Project Members: Mudassir Rasool, Sushrut Chelawat, Pranav Agarwal

Abstract: Indian railways is the second largest rail network under one management but with largest number of accidents the world over. From a 'Puffing Dragon' to 'Electrical Giant on rail' and then a lifeline to the country, Indian Railways has to come a long way. But its infrastructure and the system need some more improvement. The variation in the terrain over the slopes, adverse weather conditions creates a Herculean task of maintaining the railway traffic and safety of passengers. Hence addressing all these problems the VLSI Lab MNIT, Jaipur have always tried to make systems so as to MAKE THE WORLD a BETTER & SAFER PLACE TO LIVE IN. So continuing the series of innovations after D-ROAD TRAFFIC CONTROLLER we are here with a new innovation DLINEMAN. This is a paper about a complete system (single chip implementation) which controls the railway crossing and signaling automatically. The best & unique thing about our D-Manav is that it is a single chip implementation. The D-Manav is designed in confluence with the economy of developing nations. The system doesn’t take away the employment from the lineman working for the railways. D- Manav can be employed for the places where it’s not possible for the humans to maintain or work round the clock. Keywords-Unmanned Railway Crossing, VLSI, FPGA, CPLD, Xilinx, Modelsim

Project Title: Automatic Sun Tracking System

Project Members: M. Faheem Khan, Rana Liaqat Ali

Abstract: ASTS is a hybrid hardware/software prototype to automatically provide best alignment of solar panel with the sun, to get maximum output (electricity). Its efficient algorithm, embedded in microcontroller (89c52), has capability to track the sun and manage carefully in cloudy environment and night. In case of faults the system shows appropriate messages on LCD. Through serial communication (RS232) VB based GUI in computer, controls the manual operations of ASTS.

Project Title: REMOTELY MANAGEABLE LED DOT MATRIX DISPLAY USING ETHERNET

Project Members: Huzaifah Mubbashir, Usman Ilyas, Tanzeel ur Rehman

Abstract: This paper provides an efficient and scalable approach to LED Dot Matrix Displays. This is achieved by designing a Dot Matrix Display with an Embedded Ethernet system. In the project, various techniques of data transfer to a display matrix on a LAN, and controlling it remotely using a computer connected to a LAN were considered. An ftp server was used for communication between user(s) and device(s). During the project, a method was designed to change the size of matrix without disrupting the major system. The system can also be deployed globally when connected to the Internet.

Project Title: Using HW/SW Co-design to Implement an Embedded Face Recognition/Verification System on an FPGA

Project Members: George Fouad Zaki, Ramy Adel Halim Girgis, Wesam Ramy Eskander Gobran, Wafik Wagdy Kamel Moussa

Abstract: The system captures the facial image of a user and recognizes/verifies him by running a series of DSP algorithms. It is small and mobile as it is embedded on an FPGA. We used the HW/SW co-design methodology for optimizing the system regarding size, cost and power dissipation. The system operates with an accuracy of 85.3%.
